…Where you don’t get anything for your birthday…like at all…I’m not one of those rich kids upset because his mommy and daddy only give him money or got the wrong thing, because I didn’t even get money, like not even £5 for a drink or something.
I wasn’t expecting much, I mean I am 22 now, but you know, a gesture of goodwill could have gone a long way. Maybe something silly would have been funny and nice. I don’t want anything big, I don’t want a new phone or computer (because I bought those myself with hard earned cash from my job), I didn’t even ask for any money, just something to show that they cared a little bit would have been nice.
I didn’t get any cards from any friends or any presents, I didn’t even get any ‘Happy Birthday’ texts or phone calls (except from my beautiful girlfriend). All I got were those half arsed “Happy BD x” messages on facebook, which people only remembered because facebook told them to.
My brother did take me to see The Hobbit, which was incredible and I love and thank him so much for that, but he paid out of his own student loan, the parents didn’t even put anything towards that.
I know we’re falling on rough times and I’m not one for material things, but jesus christ.
